How to Turn GSC Impressions into Content Priorities
Search Console already shows you where demand exists. Here is how to turn that data into a ranked list of pages worth fixing this week, not a keyword list you have to guess at.

Why impressions beat keyword lists
Most keyword research starts from a blank page: a seed term, a tool, a list of "opportunities" with no evidence anyone at your company can actually rank for them. Google Search Console data works the other way around — it shows where Google is already surfacing your pages, for which queries, and how often people see them without clicking. That's real demand, not a guess.
Step 1: Pull the Performance report, not the summary
Go to Search Console → Performance → filter to the last 3 months, then sort by impressions with position between 6 and 20. This is the band PrismSEO's keyword priority score tool weighs most heavily, because pages ranking here are already proven relevant to Google — they just aren't winning the click yet. That's the fastest realistic win on most sites.
Step 2: Score by upside, not by volume
A page with 8,000 impressions at position 14 and near-zero CTR is a bigger opportunity than a page with 500 impressions at position 3 and a healthy CTR. Combine impressions, CTR gap versus your site average, and position band into one score so you can compare dozens of URLs in minutes instead of reading each row by eye.
Step 3: Ship in small batches, and recheck in two weeks, not two days
Search relevance changes take one to three weeks to fully reflect in rankings for most sites, per Google's own documentation on how search works. Publish 3-5 updates a week, log what changed, and compare position and CTR 14 days later. This pairs directly with the weekly operating rhythm guide if you want the full publishing cadence, not just the prioritization step.
If you want the mechanics of the Performance report explained on screen rather than in a doc, Google's Search Central YouTube channel has walkthroughs straight from the team that builds Search Console.
Where this breaks down
This only works if your GSC property is verified for the domain your content actually lives on, and if you isolate variables — a redesign and a title rewrite in the same window will confound your read on what worked. If you're still connecting Search Console, the getting started guide walks through verification and first sync.
